Roads and Maritime Services Acting Director Northern Vicky Sisson said the opening of the new Pacific Highway upgrade from Warrell Creek to Macksville in 2018 prompted a speed zone review in the area.
"The previous 70km/h zone through Warrell Creek will be replaced by an 80 km/h zone and a temporary 80 km/h zone for roadworks north of Warrell Creek has already been replaced by a permanent 80km/h zone," she said.
"This will provide a single speed zone on Giinagay Way between Browns Crossing Road and Macksville."
"The changes to the speed limits were assessed on a number of factors including road geometry, road environment and traffic volumes."
In response to community feedback, Roads and Maritime will also be installing advanced warning signage to alert motorists to the presence of children and cyclists in the area.
The new signs will be installed on Wednesday May 29, weather permitting. For the safety of motorists, pedestrians and workers, traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place while this work is carried out.
Community members can sign up at the Safer Roads NSW website to receive updates about changes to permanent speed limits in their nominated area.
