Nambucca Heads Surf Life Saving Club president Gary Colston is at a loss to explain why anybody would sink low enough to attack the not for profit organisation.
"The surf club is a community run organisation; it's a pretty low act to target a group whose whole purpose is to help people," he said.
Fortunately both the thieves haul, and the damage to the club was minimal, and due to help from a local business the club was repaired promptly.
"From what we can see, they've used the scaffolding from the renovations to climb up, smash a window, trash the bar and steal the cash register; luckily it was empty. The caretaker woke up and scared them away," Gary said.
"Nambucca Glass Repair has generously donated their time and fixed the damage."
Recently the club has been undergoing renovations, and part of the upgrades has seen a security system and cameras installed.
"Our new security cameras have caught them in the act; we have footage of the whole incident, they didn't bother looking up to see if they were being monitored," Gary said.
