GJ Kennedy's Jesse Stanton said the numbers were the biggest they'd seen for years.
"I think Dad had 1000 weaners one time but that was years ago," Jesse said.
He said that numbers were up because up until now people had been holding onto their stock and now with winter coming it was time to sell.
"The prices are pretty up and down at the moment ... today they are down on two weeks ago. I depends a lot whether rain is anticipated or not - if its going to rain, then that tends to push prices up."
And here's a taste of the action with auctioneer Neil Griffin:
Meat processors and feedlot backgrounders (businesses that start the fattening process of the animals), as well as restockers from the Liverpool Plains (out Gunnedah and Werris Creek way) and locally were among the crowd that filled the bleachers.
Auctioneers giving their vocal all were Neil Griffin, Ian McGoldrick and Jesse himself.
Steers weighing between 200-360kg were selling for between $2 and $2.70.
