Aged 86, Alf was well respected by all the staff and residents of Autumn Lodge which had been his home for the last four years after moving from his Warrell Creek family home of 80 years.
Born March 4, 1933 in Macksville, Alf went to Warrell Creek Public School before taking up employment at Reid and Fotheringhams in Macksville.
He spoke very proudly of his shop assistant days, before moving onto working with many local farmers, milking cows, picking beans and peas, and doing other rural jobs.
He enjoyed the company and friendship of those days and could tell many a good story. His memory for names, dates, people and places was just amazing.
Alf was very community-minded spending many days sitting outside the Co-op selling raffle tickets and fund raising mostly for the Macksville Lions Club.
He loved cooking and was quite 'famous' for his Christmas puddings, also enjoying cooking slices, biscuits, preserves, jam and pickles to share with friends.
Alf was the son of Alfred George and Emily Rouse. He was the last sibling to die. Brothers and sisters who predeceased him were Nellie (McHattan), Florence (Liddell), Arthur, Daphne (Wells), Charles, Annie (Rignold) and Elaine (Alexanderson).
He is survived by eight nephews and nine nieces - four nephews and three nieces have predeceased him.
Alf's funeral was held on April 3.
