Neck full of medals: Jarno Dolezal and Carson Hudson will travel to Victoria for the Stawell Gift this weekend

IT'S THE nation's most fabled race - and two youngsters trained at Scotts Head by the wily Richie Donovan will be looking to pull a rabbit from the hat this Easter weekend.

Carson Hudson and Jarno Dolezal have their eyes and legs pumping for the 138th running of the Stawell Gift in Victoria.

Jarno, who won the Macksville Gift last year, has plenty of pace while Carson has secured prestigious results in long jump events.

Jarno, from Frederickton, will compete in the 120 metre Grampians Stawell, with a six metre handicap, and the 70 metre Gift Hotel Arthur Postle, with a four metre handicap.

Carson will compete in three events.

Carson will also compete in the 70 metre Gift Hotel Arthur Postle, with a four metre handicap, compete in the 100 metre Stawell Times News Under 18 event, with a handicap of 12.75 metres, and the 100 metre Little Athletics Victoria, with a handicap of seven metres.

The young competitors are looking forward to the experience and giving their best at the Stawell Gift.

The Stawell Gift has been held in all but four years since 1878, and is one of the world's most famous and prestigious foot races.

Run on grass, athletes are handicapped according to form and ability, and start off varying marks accordingly.

Runners race for glory and prize money with many more dollars working their way through the bookies ring.

The main race is the Stawell Gift which is run over 120m up a slight gradient, and the final is traditionally held on Easter Monday.
