"It was a fairly straight forward call out; we arrived at a residential building with flames emanating from underneath, we did a quick search of the area and found no one was home," Nambucca Heads station commander, captain Rob Couchman said.
"Firefighters donned specialist breathing gear and quickly extinguished the flames. The rental home was unoccupied at the time; the resident turned up halfway through the job though."
Fire and Rescue NSW Nambucca Heads, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 371 Macksville, Fire and Rescue NSW Station 221 Bellingen and Fire and Rescue NSW Coffs Harbour 257 Station HAZMAT, police and ambulance personnel were all on the scene.
While the job was straight forward, the cause of the fire is not yet clear, and investigations are currently ongoing.
"At this stage, we are unsure what started the fire; police are currently investigating," Capt Couchman said.
"There is fire damage underneath the house, and most of the inside has smoke damage, a major concern for us was that the asbestos sheeting was cracked during the fire, it has since been repaired."
Luckily nobody was hurt during the incident, but Capt Couchman cautions everyone to stay vigilant and ensure all fire safety measures are taken around the house.
"Coming up to Easter everyone will have a few days off, so take a few moments out of your day and check your smoke alarms are in working order," he said.
"Recently with daylight saving everyone would have changed their clocks, a good habit to get into is to check your smoke alarms as well."
