"We are pledging $50 000 to green Bowraville’s High Street This is to be matched with funding from Nambucca Shire Council," Ms Jenvey said.
"This proposal will see shade trees planted along High Street, incorporating the palms if the community believes this is necessary, as well as creating seating in parklets for greater public discourse and amenity.
"It is a way to combat rising temperatures from climate change and the urban heat island effect, which is the heat radiating from the mass of asphalt and urban buildings on hot summer days.
"This is measured against the temperature under trees in parks which can be five or more degrees cooler."
She said a cooler, shadier town would enhance pedestrian traffic in the commercial district on hot summer days by creating a pleasant place to sit.
