Yesterday (Tuesday) Susan Jenvey, together with Deputy Labor leader Penny Sharpe and Nambucca Shire mayor Rhonda Hoban, had the pleasure of pledging $800,000 to rejuvenate the historic main street of Nambucca if Labor wins the March 23 election.

The funds, which are a 50/50 partnership with the council, will be used to put white shade sails across the main street, adding enormously to amenity of the area.

"Main streets are the life blood of small communities - they are where people come to work, to meet and to spend their money," Ms Sharpe said.

The sails will reflect the seaside location of the town, defining the commercial precinct, and create visual links to Coffs Harbour.

They will highlight the existing green plantings, they will create more opportunity for public seating, and break up the concrete nature of the main street.

For Rhonda Hoban, it is the realisation of a long-held dream.

"This is exactly what Nambucca Heads needs - this investment will lift local enthusiasm and hopefully encourage outdoor dining," Rhonda said.

For Susan revitalising the CBD is critical to retaining and attracting new small businesses to town.

"This will not only improve the look of the main street, but will energize the community … and that in turn will bring more tourism to Nambucca," Susan said.

“Country Labor is committed to helping people in regional towns prosper not wasting money in Sydney demolishing and rebuilding perfectly good stadiums.”
