While Mr Saul is hopeful he will have a successful campaign, he admits he is facing an uphill battle to topple the Nationals. 

"The Nationals may well retain the seat, so a strong protest vote for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party will make the seat marginal, which will make it a safe seat no longer," Mr Saul said.

"A safe seat works against the people who live there. Voters can make a difference, let's make Oxley marginal."

The Kempsey man, who has lived in the region his entire life, plans to put "Kempsey back on the map" and has a long list of promises to fulfill, if elected.​

Mr Saul claims he will allocate more police to combat the increase in crime in the region, lobby for the establishment of an equine complex in the Oxley, upgrade the existing sale yards in Kempsey and Macksville and open a children's ward at the Kempsey Hospital.

Mr Saul believes he will be capable of implementing these promises through leveraging the government.

"The party that forms the government will need the support of the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers and we will use the leverage to fund these projects and many more," Mr Saul said.

Mr Saul, who has stood on the Kempsey Shire Council since 2004, will stand down if he is successfully elected as the member for Oxley.
