Club President Richard Levy said how proud he was about the achievement and how glad to be debt-free.
“This is exactly what is needed to help us bring the game to more players and invest in training the many who don’t know what the game of bridge is all about,” he said.
“After all, it is a card game played by millions of people world-wide and continues to be one of Australia’s favourite pastimes.”
Those who are into it, will tell you that bridge is intellectually challenging and actually quite addictive.
“It’s also very social – it keeps us feeling young, active and definitely thinking. And only $5 for a great afternoon !” Richard quipped.
Bridge is played with four people at each table where the positions are North, East, South and West.
North partner South and play against the East-West pairing.
The Nambucca Valley Bridge Club conducts four competitions each week with an average attendance of 36 people using nine tables. Each game lasts about three hours with a break for afternoon tea supplied by the Club.
There is always a North-South winning pair and an East-West winning pair but for most players it is the social aspect of the game and particularly the partnership dynamic that gives bridge its main appeal.
Bridge is a game that needs to be learnt but is enjoyed from the very outset. Good for the brain, it has been said to stave off degenerative diseases.
