It was cold (minus seven degrees!) and even snowed, adding to the unforgettable experience Rural Fire Service Newee Creek brigade volunteers Morgan Fraser and Todd Fenech had in Tassie recently.

The pair plus two others from the Lower North Coast area gathered their gear and flew south last week to help with the containment of the Central Plateau fire, that raged through 4000 hectares of bushland recently.
The crew worked alongside ACT RFS, Western Australia Parks and Wildlife, Tasmanian Fire Service and Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service.
“We did a lot of walking up and down hills in amongst rocky terrain to chase hot spots near the burnt edge,” Morgan said.
“We carried our big packs and used hand tools to make containment lines, gaining access by helicopter (on the first day) and then trucks with long walks in. It was pretty tiring.”
Morgan sends a special ‘shout out’ to the two Special Ops paramedics “who had to follow us around everywhere – thanks guys!”
