Bowraville is expected to be the hardest hit, with temperatures predicted to hit a peak of 37 degrees today while Macksville is heading for 36 degrees and Nambucca Heads a slightly cooler 33 degrees.
As a result of the hot and windy conditions, a statewide total fire ban has been declared today, Tuesday February 12.
North-east winds are expected to reach around 20 kph, especially in Nambucca Heads and there’s little chance of rain before Thursday.
The fire ban commenced at midnight and covers the entire state.
No fires may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended during a total fire ban.
Gas and electric barbecues may be used provided certain conditions are met.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) provides the following advice.
Under extreme fire conditions:
- Homes that are specially designed and constructed to withstand a bush fire, prepared to the highest level and actively defended may provide safety.
- Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan and know when you will leave, where you will go and how you will get there. Know what you will do if you cannot leave.
- Leaving early in the day is your safest option.
