On taking a closer look, he reported teams appeared to be patching up cracks in the concrete.
The Guardian News put this to the Roads and Maritime Services and received the following response:
“Finishing work is currently being carried out underneath the Phillip Hughes Bridge as part of the $830 million Pacific Highway upgrade, which opened last year,” the spokeswoman said.
“Work includes sealing minor cracks in the concrete piers to ensure water cannot enter and create durability issues at a later date.
“There are no safety concerns.”
She said the contractor would continue to carry out finishing work along this section of new highway until the end of March.
