The ceremony opens at 8.00am and you will get to hear the Nambucca Shire’s Australia Day Ambassador, Jane Rutter, the Australian renowned Flautist.
Barry Noble will also entertain guests and visitors during the ceremony.
Members of our community will be applauded for their acts of service including raising funds for the drought-stricken farmers, good neighbours, cultural, environmental and sporting achievement.
Citizen of the Year
Wendy Mills is being recognised for her significant contribution to the welfare of our community.
Wendy was instrumental in coordinating the raising of funds for drought-stricken farmers in the west by organising bales of hay, stock feed, Christmas hampers, gift cards, non-perishable and fresh food which was transported to Tamworth.
Wendy has helped the community numerous ways including assisting in The 2018 Kokoda Challenge that raised funds for troubled youth.
Senior Citizen of the Year
Jeanette Welsh is always first to put her hand up if help is needed.
Jeanette has been a member of the Lions Club of Macksville for the past 29 and a half years. She has been a hearty, robust and willing worker with any events that the Club conducts.
You may have seen Jeanette at one of the BBQs, selling raffle tickets or Lions Christmas cakes to raise funds for the community.
Cultural Achievement
Lissa Argue is being recognised for her voluntary work as Director and Conductor of the Bowraville Theatre Singers.
At the choir rehearsals each week she brings the joy of singing to everyone, no matter what their musical experience and ability.
If you have visited the Macksville Hospital you may find Lissa in the Hospital’s Auxiliary café making you a coffee and sandwich.
Services to the community by an organisation
In April 2018, The Lions Club of Nambucca Heads celebrated 50 years of service to our community. The Club is supported by 39 members, their partners and the community.
Over the past two years, the Lions members maintained 10 BBQs in five parks, constructed a jetty at Anzac Park, organised Australia Day, catered at various events, provided Christmas Hampers to troops overseas and funds toward children for water safety, removed graffiti and supported many youth projects.
In 2018 the Club donated $15,470 to organisations and charities in the Valley.
