The goal of the training was to provide crews with the tools and knowledge to safely perform land-based water rescues during major weather events.
“Fire and Rescue NSW is proud to be rolling out this training in the Nambucca Valley,” Inspector Tony Lenthall said.
“This means Fire and Rescue NSW can offer additional support to our local State Emergency Service Crews during storm and tempest events.”
As part of the training firefighters had to pass a stringent theory component as well as a technically and physically challenging practical assessment to ensure they were capable if needed for an emergency response.
“Specialist rescue equipment has been issued to Macksville and Bowraville Fire and Rescue stations as part of the enhancement, including life jackets, helmets and hose inflation devices.
“This, along with our ongoing training programs will ensure Fire and Rescue NSW will continue to be prepared for anything.”
