Incredibly, his enthusiasm has not waned one iota … in fact, with the prospect of reaching the $400,000 mark at this year’s event on Sunday, January 6, his passion for this fundraiser is locked into top gear.
“The memory of seeing Elly and all those other children in the cancer ward never fades for me … it really does take a lifetime to say goodbye,” Ray said.
“Everything we raise goes to the Children’s Cancer Institute and this year we have some truly fantastic prizes for the raffles and the auction.
“We’ve got a Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs jersey signed by the Hughes and Mortimer brothers, there’s a Mick Fanning signed poster, a Cold Chisel signed framed print, a holiday for two to Samoa, two tickets to the Australian Open on January 3 …”
The list is more than impressive, it is like a who’s who of sporting heroes plus music and entertainment.
“The mix is a bit different this year – there’s theatre and music and the trip as well as all the sport … it’s a good lot.”
And of course there are the treats from the Rabbitohs, of whom Ray is a long-time supporter, not to mention one-time coach of the junior league in his younger days.
“They send us a huge bag of stuff every year, which we truly appreciate.”
The day will, as usual, feature a nine-hole Ambrose golf tournament with shot-gun start at 7.30am and again at 10.00.
Lunch (from 10.30am) and a mega auction will follow ((tickets $20pp or $5 for non-golfers).
Prizes for the best/fancy dressed on the day will add to the fun.
Bookings can be made at the Nambucca Heads Island Gold Club Pro Shop on 6568 8172.
Ray would also like to sincerely thank the continuing support of his long-time sponsors, Nambucca Formwork, Trisleys Betta Electric, Midcoast Trucks and Maybee Honey.
