Being touted the “older” team by other more fancied opposition in the Over 30s division – more than half of the Falcons could have comfortably qualified for over 40s masters mixed.
Downing Penrith 7-nil in the first game laid the belief that their training and preparation was on par. Wins over Manly 4-2 and a 3-all draw with Hills set the Falcons up for a quarter-final berth against Eastern Suburbs. Two quick tries by the Roosters had their tails up but the Falcons belief in attack and defence never wavered and Macksville swooped to take a 6-4 lead with less than five minutes to go. A late consolation try to the Roosters saw the Falcons win 6-5, and through to the semi-final against a strong Doyalson outfit. Exchanging try for try throughout the game saw the Doyalson Dragons edge the Falcons 5-4.
Every player in this team gave their absolute best and then some. A big thank you to the mighty Falcons army who supported and encouraged throughout the competition. The team was led by Relle ‘Razor’ Donovan and Nino Ramunno (co-captains) whose experience and touch football knowledge was well received by all.
