Once again the day was sponsored by Coral and Geoff McCann and Deirde Byrne. The golf was followed by a Christmas party and much festive cheer.
The event was a Mixed 4BBB Stableford as it is on every Island Sunday with 40 starters. The winners were Jan and Geoff Harris, our club president and his wife, with 45 points followed by Mary and Geoff Rees on 44 points. Third was Rhonda Rowe and Christ Tinson. Balls were presented to six couples excluding the three major winners and the first to receive were the sponsors Coral and Geoff McCann with Deidre also picking up a ball.
NTPs went to W Johnstone on 5 and N Gavin and Glenys Thompson on 18.
The Geoffs, Harris, McCann and Rees, often play together and have sponsored other events so it is great to see these mates all feature on the day. The Island Sunday is an open event which often attracts visitors who pay members’ fees. It is a shotgun start and includes nibbles and a social event after.
Usually on the first Sunday of the month in January it is on the 15th. All are welcome to join in.
On Thursday, 90 players hit off in a Medley Single Stableford playing for the Dolphin Day shirt. Dolphin Day is an open event held on the last Thursday of the month and the best score on the day receives a unique prize of a monogrammed and dated golf shirt. The winner this month was John Patterson playing off 36 with a score of 45 points, a long way ahead of the next best score of 37.
In A grade Colin Habgood, the club pro, returned a score of 35 playing off 8 to win from Drew Glasson also on 8 with 32 points. B Grade saw Paul Ryan (14 handicap) score 37 to win from Chris Thorndike (13) on 35 while C grade was won by Paul Maxwell (25) with 37 from Andrew McKinnon (19) on 36. Twenty-eight balls went down to 31 with Heather Gary and Les Mohr scoring. NTPs went to Andy McKinnon on 2, Mark McFaul on 3 and 15, Glenys Thompson on 7, Blade Gadd on 8, Drew Glasson won the pizza and everyone’s mate Stu Johnson won a healthy money shot.
On Saturday 86 starters hit off in the December Monthly Medal. This included visitors from eight different clubs which is great to see. Stuart Johnston (8) somehow held it together to take out A Grade with 69 nett from Bruce Berry (4) on a countback.
In B grade Trevor Peter (16) unleashed with a magnificent 58 nett from Uri Ylinen (16) with 69. C Grade saw Don Wills (33) score 67 to defeat Derek Wynn (28) with 70. Best gross scores on the day went to Peter Farrell with 76 in A Grade, Warren Fuller 85 in B grade and John Buganey 86 in C Grade. Balls went to 25.
