While it didn’t hit with the same ferocity as it did in Sydney or Broken Hill on Wednesday, the dust was most definitely thick in the air last night. You could taste it.
In spite of the stinging eyes and respiratory problems, it did make for some amazing sunset scenery as captured in this photo by Nikki Thompson taken at Eungai Rail.
Areas in regional NSW are still experiencing some dust, but it appears the worst of the storm has passed for now.
The Weatherzone forecast for the Mid North Coast mentioned “Areas of raised dust in the morning” along with “Winds W 35 to 50 km/h decreasing to 25 to 35 km/h in the evening.”
In Sydney, the weather event has caused delays at the airport and Parramatta North has been declared hazardous by the government's website.
Stranger still, a freak cold front has dropped an out of season snowfall in alpine regions, including our nation's capital.
The NSW Health Department is still advising anyone in affected areas with respiratory difficulties such as asthma to be on guard until the cloud has blown over.
