And last week her enthusiasm and dedication saw her awarded second place in Ramsey Health Care’s new graduates annual awards.
“I started at Port Macquarie Private Hospital in February and have been rotating around different areas but I feel I have found a bit of a passion in anaesthetics and recoveries,” Mareesa said.
“I enjoy chatting and comforting people before they go into theatre and then being there when they regain consciousness and are feeling disoriented.”
Mareesa said growing up in the surf-lifesaving family of the Macksville Scotts Head Surf Club since she was five helped her find her direction.
“I loved doing my first aid certificate and I wanted to do more.
“I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, to help them when they are vulnerable.”
Study at Newcastle University and then her position at Port Macquarie has been an excellent start and her parents, Margaret and Dave, said they couldn’t be more proud.
“She’s worked hard over the last four years, so she really deserves this award … and she loves her job, which makes it even better,” Dave said.
