These ones are at the Nambucca Plaza and have been installed with the initiative of Plaza manager, Steve Ryan.
“We have had solar on our roof here for about 18 months and are generating all our power, so it costs us nothing,” Steve said.
“Tesla sent us the charging stations and we got a local electrician to install them.
“We are still waiting on signage but when it arrives the two spaces (behind the main building) will be reserved for electric cars to recharge.”
Tesla said its Destination Charging Stations allowed Tesla owners to drive to key locations for longer stops with the knowledge they had a charging solution … thus replicating the convenience of charging at home.
The stations use the same unit as the home wall connector and charge at a rate of 40 km every hour on 32amp or up to 81 km per hour with three-phase.
Charging is of course dependent on a site’s power output, which at the Plaza is no problem.
Making the most of the power being generated for customers, Steve said there were also timed power outlets in the Plaza’s service corridor for people to recharge their scooters or mobile phones.
“It’s free … and all part of our push to make the Plaza completely green. The Majestic Cinema has also followed our lead and gone solar.”
