The Nambucca Youthie and local DJ and event manager DJ Joelism will be hosting a free workshop for beginners interested in the art of DJ-ing at the Nambucca Valley Youth Services Centre on November 17 and 18.
Thanks to funding from the Youthie’s “We Give Two Hoots” program, participants will get hands on training on how to “mix” and blend different songs together, some insight into turning your hobby into a business and a look into the history and culture of “the DJ” and how it has shaped many genres of music as we know it today.

- Joel Grimson
There will be Djembe drumming with rhythm aficionado Kaya Boom to get into the groove and counting beats and even a live demo and jam session in beatboxing and looping with Australian Beatbox Championship Top 10 finalist Gypsybox.
Joel has been making an income as a DJ for over 13 years, playing venues, festivals and private events up and down the east coast of Australia. He uses two turntables and a DJ mixer to blend together all the amazing music he finds from around the world for people’s listening and dancing pleasure. He also works behind the scenes on large scale events for Regional Arts Australia, community events such as Harmony Day and local music extravaganzas such as the Bello Winter Music Festival.
- There are two sessions running from 10am to 3pm, on Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18.
- Spaces are very limited, contact joelismdj@gmail.com or 0432415818 or check out www.wegivetwohoots.org
