Especially enjoying their taters are the residents in the share houses maintained by Nambucca Valley Disability Service, where deliveries were made last week.
NVDS chairman John Slade happens to be one of team of volunteers pitching in with forks and spades, sewing seeds and pulling weeds at the garden.
“The garden is behind the old fire station, it was set up using a grant from the Uniting Church and it is wholly volunteer run – we don’t even have a committee,” John said.
“Anyone can come and join us – it is open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am and if you come and do some work, you can be pretty sure you will benefit from some of the produce.
“We’ve got some chooks and we sell the eggs to keep them in feed. There are about six or seven of us who are there regularly but more hands are always welcome.
“All our excess produce goes to the food hub and is shared around local charities.”
