This Sunday marks 100 years since the armistice and the Macksville, Nambucca Heads, Stuarts Point and Bowraville Sub-branches have come together to plan a shire-wide commemoration.

A march will start at 10am from outside the Council Chambers on Princess St. It will turn right onto Wallace St, and left onto Cooper St before making its way to the cenotaph on River St.

The service will last about one hour.

Some highlights to look out for include a ceremonial ringing of the bells proclaiming peace, an RAAF fly-past and a catafalque party and Red Cross nurses in war-time costumes driven by horse and carts.

Commemorative programs that feature the Nambucca Valley's contribution to WWI will be given to those in attendance.

Buses will transport people from Scotts Head, Stuarts Point, Eungai, Nambucca Heads and Bowraville. Contact your local RSL to book.

Community Transport will also be transporting residents of Autumn Lodge, Riverside Gardens and Pacifica free of charge.

There will be street closures on the day, so parking will likely be easiest on the eastern side of Macksville’s CBD or west of Princess St.
