The donation, raised through radio station Triple M Mid North Coast’s annual coin drive, has helped fund an ultrasound for the hospital’s Emergency and Maternity departments.
The GM5FKs donation was matched dollar for dollar by the BowraMacksville UHA Volunteers, enabling the department to secure the vital piece of equipment which will be used to help diagnose illness or injury in children who present to ED and provide in utero images of babies about to be born in the Maternity Unit.
The hospital’s executive officer/director of nursing, Janelle Goodall, said the Nambucca Valley had always rallied around the fundraiser and thanked everyone involved, including Triple M, its listeners, campaign partner Woolworths, Macksville Country Club and local businesses.
“This was a big ask of our community because it is such an important and expensive piece of equipment,” Ms Goodall said.
“We just feel so lucky that we’ve been able to achieve our wish list item thanks to a team effort.
“We are very grateful, and so too are the local families whose children and infants depend on our services,” Ms Goodall said.
Radio station general manager Mike Crowhurst said he too was amazed by the Nambucca Valley’s enthusiastic response to the fundraiser.
“Every year the support our local community has for this very important event amazes me,” Mr Crowhurst said.
“It is great to be involved and to also be able to see where the money goes in helping the children when they are in hospital.
“It is great to see our local community so invested in Give Me 5 For Kids.”
This year’s Give Me 5 For Kids campaign on the Mid North Coast raised a whopping $99,769.42 for paediatric and neo natal equipment for hospitals at Macksville, Kempsey, Wauchope and Port Macquarie.
