The course was in perfect condition after so much rain, and to that end all must thank the dedicated greens staff who made sure the playing surface was at its best.
Making the most of the conditions in A grade was Bruce Berry with a round of 75/70. Second to Bruce was Col Wormleaton on 80/71. Unlucky was Greg Smith who recorded a 79/71. Greg McCoy took out the best gross score after the aforementioned with a 78.
B grade was taken out by new boy on the block Matthew Lees (16 handicap) with a 78/62. Rob Coneybeare was next with 84/68. Showing a turn around in fortunes saw Barrie Nicholson 88/67 to take the lead in C grade with Col Easey next with 92/70.
Best of the rest: Col Edmonds 91/70, Dave Wilson 90/71 and Alvin Rapley 100/71. Ball rundown went to 74 with 11 players to collect: Joe Street, Gary Tierney, Graham Weary, Peter Fredricks, Chris Thorndike, Robert Anderson (Wollongong), Steve Doherty, Rod Robertson, Col Dunne, Ed Penrose, and Kevin Mulhall.
Nearest the pins Col Edmonds on 2, David Russell on 3, Peter Farrell on 5, Mark McFaul on 7, Scott Burley at 8, Dave Wilson can eat pizza after his effort on the 13th, Warren Fuller the 15th, and a generous offer from the winner Andrew Donavon at 18 to share the spoils with his playing partners.
The second round on Sunday saw Allen O’Brien after a not so good Saturday put together a round of 78/70 to take A grade. David Russell on 85/73 was next. In B Grade Jim Barrie had 87/70 to win from Peter Bush 85/70. For the lower grade Joe Street had an 87/68, just in front of Alvin Rapley 98/69. Others to record a nett 71 were Trevor Hopkins 88/71, Kerry McCoy 95/71, Neil Duffus 89/71 and Steve Doherty 90/71.
Leaders in the A grade championship after the two rounds are Greg McCoy 157, Peter Farrell 160, and Bruce Berry 161. Nett leaders are Col Wormleaton 147, Phil Mander and David Russell 148.
In B Grade Matthew Lees is on 169, from Peter Bush 173 and Rob Coneybeare 178 along with Paul Ryan. In the nett Peter Bush leads on 143, with Matt Lees and Rob Coneybeare again in the mix.
For C grade Joe Street is on 180, from Steve Doherty 183, and Barrie Nicholson on 186 along with Col Edmonds. Leader of the nett is Alvin Rapley 140, from Joe Street 142, and Col Edmonds 144.
On Thursday on a wet course only 47 contested a stableford event that was won by Dave Mattacott (17) 38 points, from Rod Robertson 36 points and Joe Street 35 points. Ball rundown went to 31 with just Roy Simms to collect. Pins for the day went to Andrew Donavon, Bruce Berry, Roy Simms, Darcy Habgood 2, Phil Mander, Greg McCoy, and Walter Bortelletto took out the pro pin.
