Or perhaps that should read “a lack of” something.
The dreaded traffic lights and roadworks that have plagued the overpass for years are now finally ‘good and gorn’.
It’s taken nearly a year since the M1 at Nambucca was opened to finish the remaining works on the overpass.
The reason for the delay, as given by an RMS spokesperson, was that “the Roads and Maritime Services contractor for the Warrell Creek to Nambucca Heads upgrade installed a temporary connection to the bridge over the new highway towards the end of last year”.
“The temporary connection ensured Old Coast Rd was open in conjunction with the 14 km bypass of Macksville prior to the Christmas holidays.”
A reprioritising of workers down to the southern end of the highway to have the Warrell Creek bypass open by the middle of this year, meant the Old Coast Rd overpass was left by the wayside.
But motorists can now finally rejoice at a smooth, two-lane ride...at least until you hit Mann St.
