Police were notified of several fail to pay incidents on the M1 Motorway between Bundaberg in Queensland and Nambucca Heads.
After investigating, police attempted to stop a silver Ford Falcon sedan just outside Nambucca Heads.
The vehicle failed to stop and police began a pursuit, which was ultimately terminated due to the high speeds of the sedan.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle again at Nambucca Heads, John River and Nerong but “all resulted in the driver again fleeing police travelling well in excess of the speed limit”, forcing police to call off the pursuit for public safety reasons.
At 11.30am on Sunday, police organised a traffic stop on the Hexham bridge in a bid to safely stop the car.
Once the vehicle stopped, police unsuccessfully tried to talk to the driver.
Police entered the vehicle by force and arrested the 30-year-old Bundaberg man behind the wheel.
He and a female passenger, 15, were taken to Raymond Terrace police station.
The man was charged with a number of pursuit related offences, stealing and resist arrest.
The female passenger was released without charge.
