A MEDLEY single stableford at The Island Golf Course at Nambucca Heads on Saturday attracted 83 players after rain was forecast – though it never fell.

Taking out the A grade was Martin Jones (12 handicap) with a round of 39 points, just in front of Darcy Habgood (0) with 37 points. In B grade, Rod Robertson (16) put together a round of 40 points to win from Glen Crow (13) 38 points. Both players may have peaked too early with men’s championships starting this Saturday.

Taking out C grade was Thomas Whiffon (26) from Bribie Island with 42 points, much improved from his effort on the previous Thursday. Runner-up was Don Atkinson (31) with 38 stableford points. Ball rundown went to 33 with just the four to collect and they are Jim Barrie, Dave Mattacott, Joe Street and Geoff Rackham.

Pins went to Stu Johnston at 2, Neil Duffus at 3, Paul McElhinney at the 5th, Col Wormleaton at 7, Scott Burley at 8, Paul Ryan took out the pizza at 13, Hans Jansen took the 15th and Garry Roach took out the pro pin at 18.

On Thursday 77 players contested a single stableford medley event in two divisions. Topping the list in division 1 was Bruce Berry (5) with 39 points from Ted Beaton (14) 36 points. In division 2, Michael Lee (31) put together a round of 41 points. David Ogilvy (24) – after a run of outs – put together 38 points to pick up a voucher. Some to play good golf but miss the vouchers were Andrew Donovan 38 points, Peter Dawe 37, and Byran Ussher, Geoff Rackham and Peter Morriss 36 points. Ball rundown went to 32 with just the two given out to Garry Tierney and Rhonda Rowe.

In The Island Sunday mixed 4BBB, showing a clear pair of heels to all were Peter Hull and Tahlia Wakka with a round of 51 points. All went well for them with Peter making the card 13 times. Next in the contest was Heather Gray and Urpo Ylinen after they had a respectable 43 points. To collect balls were Geoff Wilson and Betty Stockham 42 points, Glenys Thompson and Trevor Peck, Geoff and Jan Harris, Paul and Gwen Maxwell, all 41 points, and Col and Donna Easey 40 points.

Pins went to Tahlia Wakka, Peter Hull, Geoff Wilson, Narelle Delaney and Garnie O’Brien. Thanks to sponsors Linda and Warren Fuller. As always Kel and Kay McGoldrick made sure all went home well fed.

This Sunday the Nambucca RSL will hold a golf day in the form of a four person ambrose. Teams of four can enter at the RSL for $100 and this will include a breakfast and lunch for each player. Monies raised will go to drought relief so the organisers hope to see as many teams as possible give it a go.

Nominations for the board at the golf club closed on Sunday with a healthy group of contenders. Voting will be available at the club in coming weeks so all golf members are encouraged to take the chance to cast your preferences and keep the meeting date in mind – November 4.
