There’s so much to love about a good community-run market. But it takes a team effort to turn a great idea into an event, and it takes the dedication of a tight-knit community to turn that event into a lasting legacy.

That’s exactly what the folks at Unkya have done, as they prepare to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the ‘Make It, Bake It, Sew It, Grow It, Recycle It’ Funkya@Unkya Community Markets at Eungai.
As a celebration of this milestone the Unkya Reserve Committee will be holding a special market and festival on Sunday at Unkya Reserve, Eungai Creek.
The themes for this special day are “celebrating community” and “fit for summer” and encompass fitness, mental health, loneliness, service within the community, leisure activities, and youth activities.
The festive market will include people who are involved in service clubs, sporting organisations, leisure clubs, and group therapies classes: visitors will be able to talk to and make contact with people in areas that interest them on the day and enjoy some free workshops.
Folk-rock band The Bushrats are stoked to be playing and will be joined onstage by their good mates, The Black Cows, who are certain to entertain with their lively set of covers and originals.
There will also be a fantastic array of handmade, homegrown, and locally-sourced produce and products in the market area as well as kids activities, great coffee, fabulous food and funky music.
This is a plastic bag-free market, so bring along your reusable bags to take your goodies home with you.
The official ceremony kicks off at 11am with a couple of speeches and a celebratory birthday cake.
Everyone is invited to come and celebrate this event and discover new ways of connecting and staying fit.
