AFTER a string of bumper fields at The Island Golf Course at Nambucca Heads, Thursday’s Dolphin Day event attracted just 67 to the tee.

Not caring how many were chasing the glory, Denys Tobin came up trumps with a round of 41 points to get the Dolphin Day shirt compliments of the sponsors for the round, Nambucca RSL and Midcoast Finance.
Playing off a 15 handicap would have helped Denys with his round.
Taking out Division 1 as a result of Denys’ win was Brad Fortescue (12 handicap) with a round of 36, taking the countback from Greg McCoy (3).
In Division 2, it was surprise, surprise, as Lee Fewings (29) put together a round of 38 points to get the prize from Steve Doherty (20) who carded 37 points. Others to do well were Bernie Dugdale and Don Lavery, both having rounds of 36 points.
Ball rundown went to 33 and it was just the one to pick up in Drew Glasson.
Nearest the pins for the round went to Greg Smith at 5, Greg McCoy at 7, Joe Street at 8, Greg McCoy also took out the pizza hole at 13, Bernie Dugdale won the 15th and Paul Ryan took out the money shot at 18.
On Saturday a field of 111 played in a medley stableford with three grades contested.
The club is finding it difficult to keep the Habgoods out of the prizes at present as Colin Habgood (10) from Kempsey put together a round of 42 points to take out A grade. Placed in the runners up spot was Marc Mulligan (6) from GenY with a round of 40.
Picking up B grade with a round of 40 also was Trevor Peter (14) taking the countback from Dennis Ashton (18).
Winner of C grade was Shane Anderson (24) 39 points from Antoinette Van Jaarsveld (The Links) (32) 36 points. There were plenty of other good rounds for the day with Linne Street 38, along with Etienne Van Jaarsveld. Then Peter Farrell, Uri Ylinen, both 37 points, while on 36 points were Ted Beaton, Dale Hanson, John Hopkins and Drew Glasson. The ball rundown went to 32 with 10 players to collect and they are Dave Wilson, Maxine Townsend, Chris Thorndike, Brendan Graham, Aart Hooykaas, Phill Frost, Russell Fisher (Belmont), Martin Jones, Jacques Vorster (Wood) and Lee Fewings.
Nearest the pins: Jason Belt at the 2nd, Marc Mulligan at 3, Nathan Malone at 5, Uri Ylinen at 7, Greg McCoy at 8, Scott Burley at 13, Peter Dawe at 15, and Peter Farrell at 18.
Saturday will be a stableford round before the club heads into the championships rounds over the rest of October. Found a few champions over the past week and they are in the ambulance service and at Macksville emergency care unit.
