Doug Smith reports – last Thursday’s bowls was sponsored by Jye McAuliffe one of our bowlers who is there for every event possible at our club and who visits neighbouring clubs to have a game of bowls. The Men's Bowling Club thank you for the day, Jye, and all the visitors who came along. The winners were C Moore, D Hickson and P Bishop from Scotts Head. Second went to a pairs game Keith McDonald and David Ainsworth and the Bradman’s prize went to Warren Gallop and Brent Liddell. The winners get their name on the perpetual shield, also donated by Jye, to be played for annually. Don't forget the Calcutta for the Handicapped Singles is on this Friday evening at 5.45. There is a big field this year so you will have plenty of chances of getting the winner.
Nambucca Men
Fred Pope reports – last Wednesday’s Club Selected Mixed Triples attracted a field of 42 bowlers. The $15 winners were Ray Long, Ken Brown and Geoff Hartmann.
Second place $10 winners were Bob Morrison, Eric Kyle and J Glass. Third prize $5 winners were John Hunt, Mark Blackford and Roger McGuigan. Lucky losers’ $5 prize went to Neil Campbell, Ken Reed and Chris D’Elboux. Lucky bowler was Ian Poletti. The jackpot was won. The lucky bowlers were Ken Leggett, Warren Gallop, Ian Poletti, Ian Jones, Ian West and John Richardson.
Friday’s Nominated Men’s Triples attracted 48 bowlers. The $15 first prize winners were Jim Sinclair, Neville Phillips and Chris D’Elboux. Second place $10 winners were Mike Ryan, John Eather and Mick Boyle. Third place $10 prize winners were Dave Ogilvy, Roger McGuigan and Kev Lill. The lucky losers’ $10 prize went to Warren Gallop, John Richardson and Jeff Thorn. The $15 lucky bowler was Ken Leggett. The jackpot of $360 was won. Lucky bowlers were Ken Leggett, Ken Summerville, Owen Smith, Eric Kyle, Gary Tierney and Joe Franck.
Scotts Head Men
Gary Bishop reports – nominations have been called for the Club Fours, the second last of our competitions for the year. The Nambucca Valley Over 50s have their next day on Tuesday October 9 at Scotts Head. The annual Ron Brown Shield, a fours game, will be decided on the day.
Rink winners for Saturday September 22 were K Liddell, J Glass and G Bishop.
Urunga Women
Pat Chapman reports – with many of our bowlers away last week playing in district events, the fields were small though Helen Fisher, Chris Buntine and Gloria Christian were all smiles when their names came out of the hat on Tuesday.
Congratulations to Elaine Cameron, Ros Hancock and Lorraine Carlon who were in the winning list again at Sawtell's Unreal Triples day.
The draw for the minor pairs is on the board and entries for the mixed fours spring carnival on October 6 and 7 are closing.
Arrangements are well in hand for Gala Day and the generous support from our members is much appreciated.
Urunga bowlers were sad to learn of the death of Val Renshaw who had been a great supporter for many years. And on a happy note, congratulations to Bev and Peter Cloake who have recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Julee Townsend reports – results from Saturday’s stableford competition. Winner K Wilson 46, runner-up Paul leCerf 42. Front nine J Townsend, back nine G Johnson. Nearest the pins 2nd/11th K Wilson, 8th/17th J Armes. Longest to the pins 4th/13th P LeCerf, and 16th P LeCerf. Balls: J Consalves, N Mackay, T Simpson and G Brookes.
Macksville Women
Rhonda McAuliffe reports – Mary Dwyer off a 40 handicap with a 76 nett won the stroke competition played on September 12 on a countback from Carmel Freudenstein off 32 handicap and 76 nett.
Belinda Cooper was next in line to win a ball, Lyn McCoy won a ball and landed the NTP on the 10th. Desma Hughes carved the greens up with 27 putts.
A stableford game on September 18 saw some close scores. Christine Parker with 34 stableford points was runner-up on a countback from Mary Dwyer and Lorraine King.
Rhonda McAuliffe with 35 stableford points and NTP on the 10th just made it as the winner.
Mid North Coast Veterans
Colin Cutt reports – last Tuesday, 48 golfers competed at Bellingen Golf Course. Winner: Les Howes 40, 1st runner-up Bruce Mitchell 39, 2nd runner-up Dave Salvin 38 c/b, 3rd runner-up Jeff Porter 38 c/b. NTPs: 3rd Simon Thorn, 12th Colin Easy, 2nd shot 7th Greg Paterson, 2nd shot 7th Dave Salvin.
That same day, 45 golfers competed at Coffs Harbour Golf Course. Winner: Ian Griffin 43, 1st runner-up Ian Brown 42, 2nd runner-up Bruce Wallace 40, 3rd runner-up Susan Wilson-Brown 39. NTPs: 3rd Ian Griffin, 6th Ian Brown, 15th Alan Wallis.
Nambucca Heads Women
Jen Forne reports – Wednesday’s three person ambrose had a neat 39 starters. Winning team on a combined handicap of 12.17 was Lyn Vidler, Jennifer Thorne and Linne Street with 60.83 nett. Runners-up were Maxine Townsend, Denise Paluch and Marilyn McNally with an eight handicap giving a nett score of 61. Nearest the pin on the 5th was Jennifer Johnston, Adrienne Smith won the pizza on 13 and the 18th pro pin was won by Wendy Ritchie.
