Volunteers from all walks of life get together to make re-usable bags using recycled materials, as a sustainable alternative to plastic bags.
The project relies on the generosity of the local community, donating time and materials at our sewing bees (you do not need to know how to sew … we can teach you or there are plenty of other things to do!). Check us out on Facebook: Nambucca Valley Boomerang Bags.
You can join us every Wednesday from 10am to 3pm in the Pioneer Community Centre, 70 High Street, Bowraville or phone Marion on 0400 828 471 or email marion.syratt@gmail.com.
In the past year, we have sewn 830 carry bags and 760 mesh fruit and vege bags. Donated bags provide community support. Sold bags provide funds for sustaining the activity.
Any “surplus” funds go to either local charities or to local sustainable activities.
