THIS past week the workers took over The Island Golf Course as Phillip Mander and Peter Miller took out the A and B grade on Saturday while Graham Weary took out Thursday’s A grade and Denys Tobin and Paul McElhinney took the B grade on Thursday.

All these players give plenty of their time maintaining the course in one way or another so good to see they are able to reap some benefits for the time spent.
Saturday saw a field of 90 players with nine visitors making up the field for a medley stableford sponsored by Macksville Mitre 10.
Phil Mander (10 handicap) 40 points took A grade from Maxine Townsend (12) 38 points. Great to see Maxine back in form after the best part of the past year suffering a back complaint. Peter Miller (13) 38 points took B grade from Jim Barrie (17) 36 points. Peter can be see most weeks on the rough mower and members appreciate the time he spends keeping the course in good condition. Filling the C grade was Don Atkinson (32) with 37 points, taking the countback from Gary Roach (24).
Ball rundown went to 32 with just the one player, John Hopkins, picking up with a score of 32 points. Nearest the pins went to Brendan Graham (course superintendent) at the 3rd, Troy Herbert picked up the 2nd, 5th and 13th, Drew Glasson took out the 7th, Peter Fenshan won the 8th, George Burgess the 15th and John Nebauer went home with the money shot. Others to show out were Robert Steele 37 points, Peter Delaney and Steve Frost, 36 points, while Geoff Rackham, Chris Thorndike and Geoff Wilson all recorded 35 points.
Thursday’s round of medley single stableford saw 83 players tee off and 12 players from Mudgee helped to make up a field. Winner in A grade was Graham Weary (10) with 37 points. Drew Glasson (7) was next with 36 points. Taking out B grade Denys Tobin (15) and Paul McElhinney (18) both had a card of 38 points. Denys getting the better countback.
Picking up C grade was Roy Louis (26), also a 38-point score, while Rhonda Rowe (21) finished with 37 points. Ball rundown went to 32 with just two players to collect and they are James Gillham (Mudgee) and Don Atkinson. James also eagled the second hole par five with a 7-iron onto the green.
On Sunday a hearty few took to the course in a Texas Scramble Ambrose sponsored by Maxine Townsend and Jason Belt. Winners were Trevor Peck, Glenys Thompson, Mary and Graham Bysouth with a gross 74, nett 62. Ball competition went to Rodney and Robin Robertson along with S Barnett and J Gaudinski 79 gross, 64 nett.
This Saturday will be another chance to qualify in the Top 10 Shoot Out sponsored by the Leagues and Sports Club in a single stableford.
