Paul O’Neill reports – winners on the social scene last week were Bob Mackay, Gino Vitagliani and Tracey Armes. Runners-up were Paul Allen and Dean Roe. Names in by 12.30 for a 1 o’clock start this arvo for a chance at the cash. Congratulations to Lawrie Medbury for making the B Grade singles final after he took care of Tristram Edwards 31-16 last week. He’ll meet Tim Gardner this Saturday at 1pm in the decider.
Two games of men’s triples on Saturday saw Pat Clough, Beau McKay and Paul O’Neill beat Graham Allen, Chris Wills and Craig Doolan 18-11, and Roy Tape, Steve Johnson and Dean Roe got the job done against Gav Gallop, Tim Gardner and Geoff McKay, winning 27-17. On Sunday, Janine Fletcher and Steve Johnson advanced to the semi-finals in the mixed pairs, winning 26-14 over Moira Welsh and Andy DalSanto. Go Bowra!
Macksville Women
Thelma Scott reports – we had a Consistency Championship Game between Donna Soyka and Fiona Medley with Fiona coming out the winner in a close game (marker Thelma Scott). We also had two games of Pairs with Kaye Wood and Judy Walker defeating Maureen Glass (a visitor) and Karen Liddell and Nell Partridge and Janet Poletti defeating Barbara McBride and Gail Griffiths.
On Friday we had the semi-final of the Consistency played between Fiona Medley and Kaye Wood with Fiona the winner in another close game (marker Donna Soyka). Fiona Medley will now play Gail Griffiths in the final, so good luck, ladies.
Macksville Men
Doug Smith reports – last Thursday’s jackpot bowls was won by Jye McAuliffe, Keith McDonald and Bob (Bullant) Antcliff from a pairs game of Brian Fuller and Gary Soyka. The jackpot was won by Brian Nunn, Ross Patmore and Ida Down.
The final of the Club Championship Triples was played on Sunday with Allan Everson, Dale (Ida) Down and Adam Laird defeating Warren Gallop, Gary Soyka and Malcolm Duffy in a tight scoring game, winning 16/15.
On Thursday we will hold the Jye McAuliffe Trophy Shield Day. This is open to both men and women bowlers (names in by 12.30pm for bowls at 1 o’clock).
Nambucca Heads Women
Pat Smith reports – Manor Smith and Arlene Duffus are our Minor Major Pairs winners for 2018. In the final they defeated Vicky Wright and Myra McKay, with both teams coming up with good shots during the game.
Our next game will be the Restricted Pairs where all players are Minors.
Nambucca Heads Men
Fred Pope reports – last wednesday’s Club Selected Triples attracted a field of 34 bowlers. The $15 winners were Christine Crump, Chris Evans and Elaine Fleming. Second place $10 winners were Bill Newman, Mark Bkackford and Tony Stokes. Third prize $5 winners were Jim Sinclair, Sue Newman and Mick Edwards.
The lucky losers’ $5 prize went to Andrew Overton, Ian Crump and Fred Pope. The lucky bowler $15 was Andrew Overton. The jackpot of $80 was won. Winners were Ray Long, Peter Wallis, Ian Poletti, Andrew Overton, Ian Crump and Fred Pope.
Friday’s Nominated Men’s Triples attracted 48 bowlers. The $15 first prize winners were Ian Blain, Mark Blackford and Laurie Summers. Second place $10 winners were John Reynolds, Phil Hill and Peter McRitchie. Third place $10 prize winners were Maurie Roberts, Bill Miernik and Cec Smith. The lucky losers’ $10 prize went to Harry Rauchenberger, John Eather and Owen Smith. The $15 lucky bowler was Harry Rauchenberger. The jackpot of $240 was not won.
Scotts Head Men
Gary Bishop reports – social bowls resumed last weekend. Rink winners were K Liddell and B Scrivener. The next Nambucca Valley Over 50s will be held at Scotts Head on October 9. This will include the annual Ron Brown Shield, currently held by Scotts Head. Names in by the Friday prior.
Urunga Women
Pat Chapman reports – play in the minor pairs starts today, so bowlers are asked to check the draw for matches.
The special meeting to discuss the colour of slacks/shorts/skorts to go with Urunga women’s new uniform shirts decided to retain royal blue. It should be noted that this is the only colour that can be worn with the uniform shirts.
It's time for the club’s not quite grown up bowlers to start thinking about their fancy dress for the Mid North Coast District's annual charity day to be held at Park Beach on Wednesday October 24 with players asked (though not compulsory) to dress up in something starting with the letter ‘G’. The usual enthusiasts already have their thinking caps on and are sure to come up with original ideas in a bid to take out some of the prizes. Cost for the day is $25 or $15 non-players.
Entries close with the club secretary on October 4. As usual there will be a trading table, raffles, a cent auction and all donations will be gratefully accepted. Proceeds will be donated to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter.
Golf
Mid North Coast Veterans
Colin Cutt reports – last Tuesday, 26 golfers competed at Macksville Golf Course. Winner: Brian Turner 42 (c/b), 1st runner-up Steve Currie 42, 2nd runner-up Steve Ash 40. NTP: Clive Friedman.
Also, last Tuesday, 50 golfers competed at Urunga Golf Course, in a two person ambrose. Winners: Colin Cutt and Geoff Knight with 64.5, runners-up Rod Eves and Bruce Connell with 65.25 (c/b). NTPs: Bruce Connell (3rd/12th), Andrew MacKinnon (9th/18th) and Jeff Porter (16th).
Nambucca Heads Women
Jen Forne reports – last Wednesday’s Monthly Medal had 29 starters. Overall winner was Kerrie Jackson from A Grade with 71 nett, beating Rhonda Rowe on a countback. B Grade, on a countback also, was won by Ann Antcliff 72 from Heather Gray. Dianne Hopkins 78 won C Grade from Betty Stockham 79.
Rhonda Rowe had the lowest gross, 92, and Kerrie Jackson won the putting with 28. Nearest the pins on the 5th won by Rhonda Rowe, Ann Antcliff and Lyn Vidler. Sue Seymour won the pizza on the 13th and Ann Antcliff the pro pin on 18.
Meanwhile, exciting results at Country Week had Nambucca’s Peta Giddey and Robyn Jones in the winners’ circle.
Playing on three city courses, Richmond, Lynwood and Windsor, Peta and Robyn rose to the challenge.
Robyn was Div 3 winner on day 1 and Peta was runner-up on both days, so she was overall Div 3 runner-up and winner of the prestigious Black Jacket as most successful North Coast golfer.
Handicap check
Golf Australia chief executive Stephen Pitt is delighted that so many club golfers have already registered their email address to view their handicap.
More than 100,000 members have signed on in the first two weeks to a process that will help shape the future of Australian golf.
"We appreciate the small impost we have placed on the golfers of Australia, but the information we have collected will be vital to us in growing the game," Pitt said.
"We thank the golfers of Australia for helping us in our mission and look forward to providing more timely, accurate and appropriate communications into the future."
For those who haven't done so yet, the next time you log on through the Golf Australia portal to view your handicap, you will automatically be presented with a short one-off online form to complete.
