Did you know that greenkeepers don’t have to think hard, they’re surrounded by experts!
Scotts Heads Men
Gary Bishop reports – the weekend saw the running of the Ben Budge Memorial Triples carnival at Scotts Head. It was the 21st running of the carnival but it was the inaugural event since the event was rebadged to honour Ben Budge. The first prize, taken out by the Park Beach team of R O'Keefe, R Holloway and W Murray, was presented by Mrs Janine Budge. Other prizes were handed out by the carnival's major sponsor, Jasper Young of Scotts Head Pharmacy. The weather had been kind to us for the carnival and for the bowlers who travelled from far afield in NSW to take part, and we look forward to next year's carnival with entries already received. Social bowls will resume on Saturday.
Urunga Woman
Pat Chapman reports – as reported last week Elaine Cameron, Sally Welsh, Ros Hancock and Lorraine, Urunga's champion District and Regional Fours combination, travelled to Sydney to compete in the State finals. They met stiff opposition from Ettalong in the first round and went down 28 to 6. Nevertheless this was wonderful experience and no doubt will stand them in good stead for the future.
The Pairs from Park Beach and the Triples from Sawtell also lost in round 1 but Urunga sends hearty congratulations to Judy Monks from Sawtell who took out the coveted Singles State title having survived all the rounds against the State's top bowlers. All Judy's Urunga bowling friends are proud of her magnificent achievement.
I don't think anyone complained about the rain washing out last Tuesday's bowls but the sun shone for Thursday and the remaining semi-final in the major minor pairs was played resulting in a win for Isabel Pettit and Wendy Hodges (sub for Robyn Pettit) over Helen Hoffman and Robyn Adams. They will now meet Kath McPhail and Gai Bailey in the final. Rink winners were Janine Brown and Faye Puckeridge. Nominations for the minor pairs close Friday and Consistency nominations open on Friday, closing October 11.
Please go through your cupboards and bring in items for the trading table on our Gala Day to be held on Tuesday October 2. Nominations of triples are now being accepted.
It is hoped that there will be a good attendance for the meeting immediately after lunch on Thursday about the colour of slacks/shorts/skirts for our new uniform. Please make every effort to attend.
