But you could have been mistaken for thinking we’d had a pearler of a season given the size of the crowd on day one of the 23rd Rusty Iron Rally at Macksville Showground today.
It was wall to wall denim, boots, and flannel shirts – and thankfully not a hipster in sight – as one of the biggest throngs in recent memory poured in early to suss all things grumbly, loud and mechanical.
John South, president of the Mid North Coast Machinery Restoration Club, and Nambucca Shire councillor John Ainsworth did the formalities of the official opening.

The speeches were followed by a ring parade of old motorbikes, cars and trucks. With the tractors to follow.
And of course there were all those small machines from yesteryear lovingly restored and all working:
