September is the perfect time for a bargain and Saturday, September 8 is the day to go out and find one.
For one day only, the monster sale at Bowra is where shoppers can find a wide range of great specials.
The Community Market
Head to the Pioneer Community Centre for the Bowraville Community Market. The market runs from 8 am to 12 noon. There is brewed coffee, morning tea and free speciality tea tastings.
The fundraising table will have lemon butter and marmalade.
Boomerang Bags will be giving away a free produce bag with every bag purchased.
There will also be locally-made preserves and jewellery as well as citrus, avocados and pecans to buy. Plus don’t forget to take a browse of the bric-a-brac.
Abundance of specials
There will be plenty of specials to be found at the Bowraville Pharmacy. There are savings to be made on scarfs, hats and footwear. There will be a big bargain table positioned outside and discounts on selected giftware inside. Plus you can save up to 20% off selected perfumes.
As part of Stroke Awareness Week, you can also have your blood pressure taken and you can talk to the friendly and expert team who can assess your risk of a stroke.
Slice of History
It’s not just about shopping, the doors of St. James Anglican Church will be open so you can take a look through.
St. James opened in 1899 and is the oldest Anglican Church in the Nambucca Valley.
As Reverend Rosalin Johnson says “As with many of the buildings in our beautiful little town, St. James is heritage listed and plans are underway at the moment to give her a repaint and dress her up a bit.”
“She has seen many saints and sinners walk through her doors over the years.”
There will be historical papers to take a browse through and you can even pick up a complimentary bookmark.
Bowraville Ex-Services’s Club
For a meal that won’t break the bank, head to the Bowraville Ex-Services’s Club. You’ll find all the favourite lunch choices for just $10 a meal. On the menu, there’s bangers and mash, chicken skewers, curries and stews and much more.
Aunt Emily Craft Centre
In the heart of Bowra, you will find a treasure trove. There’s beautiful crafts, handmade clothes, accessories, jewellery and gifts - all produced by the members of Aunt Emily Craft Centre.
You will also find locally produced handmade pickles, jams and condiments.
Specials on the menu
If you’ve not been to Bowra in a while, why not call into the Bowra Hotel. It’s been 12 months since their renovation when they installed a wood-fired pizza oven.
“We’re really looking forward to getting people up to Bowra,” says chef Dylan Creaser. “We’ve got some great specials planned for the day.”
To get your taste-buds tingling Dylan tells us there will be three fantastic specials for either $7 or $8; including homemade Bowra Country Casserole pie with mash and gravy, crumbed steak and chips, as well as fish and chips.
All things country and horses
There will be bargains galore to be found at Penny Lane Tack and Apparel. You will find bargain bins to rummage through as well as plenty of reduced winter wear.
It’s not just about country wear for men and women, there’s a great selection of giftware to browse too.
You can get a preview of what’s in store at www.pennylanetackandapparel.com.
The best cuppa in town
Take a break from your shopping and recharge by enjoying some delicious fare at Murphy’s Coffee Lounge.
After only three years in Bowra, Murphy's enjoys a very loyal following of serious coffee lovers. The Botero blend served is roasted in Maclean on the Mid North coast of NSW, providing a truly local experience.
The cafe interior presents an old world charm in keeping with the verandah post town of Bowraville. It’s a comfortable, friendly space to meet with friends for a chat or rest during your travels.
Murphy's offers a selection of homemade biscuits, cakes and slices to enjoy with your coffee or other beverage.
Customers requiring gluten and dairy free items are also catered for.
If you are in town and looking for a light lunch, freshly-made sandwiches are always available, or perhaps a quiche or gourmet pie, both served with a healthy salad.
In winter, soup is on the menu. It’s all about country-style homemade fare.
So bring a friend, pack a shopping bag or two, and head to Bowra for a beautiful bargain-filled day.
