Four fire crews were called to the scene just after 4pm and a special HAZMAT team were brought in from Coffs Harbour.
By the time firefighters from Nambucca Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene, noxious smoke was pouring out of the building and into neighbouring businesses.
“Firefighters encountered heavy smoke and very limited visability as they advanced and extinguished the fire,” a spokesperson for Nambucca Fire and Rescue said.
The Plaza was closed down for afternoon trading.
It is uncertain at this point when the Reject Shop will reopen.
The fire is being treated as ‘suspicious’ and is currently being investigated by police.
More details to come as they are released, including a more comprehensive report on Monday.
