It was also the final game for Nambucca for Nick Hickey who has come through the ranks since under 6s, and Steve (Horvath) Ryan, who swears this is his last year. Steve is 60, Nick is 19, and that pretty well sums the Strikers 3rd division side. They just wanna play.
And that they did, although the Lions found two goals in the first half, and if not for Ben Honeybrook in goals, it could have been more.
Nambucca also had moments. Isaac Jones worked hard with Rick Welsh, Buster Faulkner, Kiz Herring, and Travis Hayden who fed his speedy brother Riley up front.
The Strikers maintained the pressure and when the ball fell to Isaac’s feet, he took a touch and smacked a cracker from 25 out to lift Nambucca to 1-2 at the break.
A slow second half start allowed Coffs in again, but the Strikers turned it around, again and again, only to break down in the last third of the pitch. The Lions went on to take the fixture 5-1.
