The number of Falcons selected for Northern Eagles (the region from the Qld border to Forster in the south) continues to increase each year, with an impressive 23 players from the club selected to represent this year in varying age groups at the Junior Regional Championships at the Kingsway in Penrith.
All teams performed exceptionally well showing, tremendous improvement on previous years with overall placings. The huge geographical distance between players in this region makes training difficult in comparison to the city regions who have the luxury of weekly training sessions. Nevertheless, the U14s boys and girls teams and the U18s girls side managed to secure semi-final spots. The 14s girls went all the way through to the grand final against the Sydney Scorpions, losing by a single point.
From these championships, Wulaaran Walker was selected in the U14s girls NSW merit team and Xanthe Ronan made the U18 girls NSW TFNSW development squad. Xanthe enjoyed a weekend training and final selection day in Sydney, saying it was an all round fabulous experience.
In other news, players have been and still are representing at various school state championship levels in U12s, U15s and Opens divisions in Mudgee, Wagga, Penrith, Cronulla, Bateau Bay and beyond. From competitions completed, Wulaaran Walker has been selected to play in the NSW U15 all school team to compete at the national championships in Tasmania in October and Lucy Spain has been called into the NSW Combined Independent School open women’s team to compete at the National Youth Championships in Caloundra in September. Both girls are excited to compete at these tournaments and will be training hard in the lead up.
The Falcons committee intends to keep working hard developing coaches, players and referees and is looking forward to the start of the summer competition in September. Training has also begun for Falcons senior teams competing in December’s Senior State Cup in Port Macquarie with five teams in preparation for this event, while junior rep selections will take place in the coming weeks.
