Paul O’Neill reports – Saturday at the Den saw the A Grade Singles final played with Paul O’Neill taking on Matt Hopper on a slippery ‘little’ green which would demand some big draw bowls to get shot. Matt jumped out to a nine point advantage, at one point having a 21-12 lead. O’Neill then fought hard for a seven-end stretch which saw him take a 22-21 lead but that only seemed to lift his opponent as Hopper wouldn’t surrender another shot to take his fourth singles crown 33-22. Congratulations to Hop and big thanks to Greg Lamberth for his astute marking.
Sunday saw another edition of the annual Classic Triples tourney with 22 teams from all over competing for the cash in gusty conditions. In the end it was the State final-bound team of Brendon Howard, Brian Smith and Adam Laird who would prevail in another great day of bowls at the Den. Huge thanks to all who contributed, congratulations lads and best of luck at State.
