Three Fire and Rescue NSW crews responded, as did four Rural Fire Service teams, who brought with them valuable water supplies.
The home was already engulfed in flames when tankers arrived with one wall collapsing soon after. The fire was fully extinguished by about 2:20am.
The occupants, a 27-year-old man, a 28-year old woman and a two year old, all escaped to the neighbour’s house.
The man was transported to Coffs Harbour Health Campus and treated for first degree burns before being discharged. The woman however was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital after sustaining third degree burns to her upper thighs and torso.
A crime scene was established with detectives from Kempsey in attendance pending the arrival of Coffs Harbour Crime Scene.
A report is being prepared for the Coroner.
