Thelma Scott reports – we had three Games of Consistency Championships which saw Donna Soyka defeat Thelma Scott (marker Kaye Wood), Fiona Medley defeat Janet Poletti (marker Elwyn Ainsworth), and Gail Griffiths defeat Carol Turner in nail biting game (marker Judy Walker). Congratulation, ladies. We also had a Social Consistency game between Barbara McBride and Ruth Flaretty. The trophy winners were Janet Poletti, Elwyn Ainsworth and Kaye Wood.
Macksville Men
Doug Smith reports – last Thursday’s jackpot bowls results were determined by the best winning aggregate which went to a pairs team of Wayne Ross and David Ainsworth with 27 from Brian Nunn, Ken Ainsworth and Gary Soyka with 22. The jackpot of $101 was not won.
On Saturday the mixed social bowls winners were Brian Fuller, Wayne Ross and Keith McDonald from Brian Fuller, Brian Nunn and Carol Turner. The results of the championship triples played this week are Warren Gallop, Gary Soyka and Malcolm Duffy def Stan Moc, Brian Smith and Scott Salter; Bevan Chambers, Ken Grace and John Steel def Jye McAuliffe, Warren Ryan (sub) and Keith Hickey; Allan Everson, Dale Down and Adam Laird def Peter Fox Jnr, Kevin Garner and Brendon Howard.
The annual Mixed Pairs Bowls Day is on Sunday August 26. There are still plenty of vacancies, so to enter a team call the Country Club on 6568-1400 or Doug Smith 6568-4880.
Nambucca Heads Women
Pat Smith reports – last Tuesday’s winners taken on secret ends were Manor Smith, Margaret Dwarte and Bev Jones.
Quarter-final Consistency: Manor Smith def Arlene Duffus, Bev Jones def Sandra Hamblion, Margaret Flagg def Maria Fischer, and Vicky Wright def Michelle Fredericks. Semi-final will be played Thursday August 9.
Nambucca Heads Men
Fred Pope reports – last Wednesday’s Club Selected Triples attracted a field of 44 bowlers. The $15 winners were Sandy Saunders, Corrin Nouws and Col Fraser. Second place $10 winners were Joe Prius, Sue Newman and Chris D’Elboux. Third prize $10 winners were Maurie Roberts, Ken Brown and Ian Poletti. Lucky losers’ $10 prize went to Cliff Ross, Margaret Dwarte. Lucky bowler was Owen Smith. The jackpot of $30 was not won.
Friday’s Nominated Men’s Triples attracted 66 bowlers. The $15 first prize winners were Eric Kyle, Garry Tierney and Joe Franck. Second place $10 winners were Wayne Bolton, Frank Ronan and Ken Summerville. Third place $10 winners were Mike Ryan, S Adams and Bill Blair The lucky losers were Bob Summerville, John Richardson and Jeff Thorn. The lucky bowler was Allan Cosgrave. The jackpot of $360 was won. The winners were Don Lean, Allan Cosgrave, Ray Manser, Ian Blair, Laurie Summers and Bill Blackford.
Men’s Triples Championship semi-final results. Ken Rostron (25) defeated Ray Manser (20). Grant Lawrence (28) defeated Don Ireland (17).
Mixed Fours Championships, first round. John Reynolds, Corrin Nouws, Gloria Richardson and Ian Poletti (32) defeated Sue Newman, Lyn Hartmann, Brett Stephens and Geoff Hartmann (16).
Men’s Triples Championship final. Chris Evans, Doug Cedelland and Ken Rostron (19) defeated Darryl Lawrence, John Hogarth and Grant Lawrence (18) in a hard fought game that was decided in the last end.
Scotts Heads Men
Gary Bishop reports – on Sunday the remaining semi-final of the Club Triples was played between Ty Webber and Gary Dallwitz. In the early stages of the match, spectators were treated to tight tussles between the two leads, the two seconds and the skips, with the scores see-sawing around even. However, as the match progressed, Ty and his team of Ben Kenay and Dave Dickson proved too strong and went on to a convincing 27-9 win. The final is now set between Ty and Dale Scrivener on a day yet to be decided. Rink winners for Saturday August 4 were B Scrivener, J Breen and G Dallwitz.
Urunga Women
Brenda Fane reports – the new Urunga WBC club shirts and jackets have arrived and members may pick them up from the bowls office during normal play times. Quite a few Urunga bowlers wore the new shirts and jackets to the Park Beach Winter Carnival last Wednesday and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive.
The composite team of Elaine Tindal, Lyn Kaufmann, Brenda Fane and Shirley Willis came in fourth out of 28 teams and won the prize for the best performed team in the second game.
The semi-finals of the Minor Singles was won by Lorraine Carlon defeating Ava Power and Bev Cloake defeating Irene Algar. The final will be played on Thursday August 9 between Bev and Lorraine.

Colin Cutt reports – on Tuesday, July 31, 95 golfers competed at Sawtell Golf Course, which was in excellent condition with enjoyable playing conditions. Winners: A grade Kevin Walker 42, 1st runner-up Wendy Johnstone 38, 2nd runner-up Dennis Ryan 37 c/b. B grade Simon Thorn 44 c/b, 1st runner-up George Graham 44, 2nd runner-up Peter Jackman 42. C grade Doug Hurley 44, 1st runner-up Des Hoy 40, 2nd runner-up Bob Irvine 38.
NTPs: 3rd Kevin Walker, 7th Dave Wagstaff, 11th John Plummer, 15th Doug Springhall. Ball run to 33 pts.
Nambucca Heads Women
Jen Forne reports – Stuart Island was in great condition for the 33 starters in the Monthly Medal Stroke event last Wednesday. A Grade winner with 72 nett was Lyn Grose. Linne Street was runner-up on 75 nett. Judith Boyle won B Grade with 71 nett and runner-up was Heather Gray with 73. C Grade was won by Betty Stockham with 78 nett and Linda Fuller runner-up on 81.
Lowest gross was Linne Street with 89 and Judith Boyle had the least putts with 26. Nearest the pins on 5th Betty Stockham C Grade, 13th pizza hole Narelle Delaney, and on 18 Judy Boyle won Pro Pin.
Entries are now open for the Island Classic being held on August 23, 25 and 26.
