Paul O’Neill reports – men’s championship action continued through the weekend with Saturday holding the three quarter-finals in the major singles. Matt Hopper survived a lively comeback from defending champ Greg Lamberth to win 31-24 and now meets Graham Allen in the semis this Saturday. The other semi pits Paul O'Neill against John Cochrane after the former beat David Johnson 31-22 and the latter played great draw bowls to outplay Tristram Edwards 32-27. Both games set down for 1pm.
Sunday saw the two semis in the men’s pairs with O'Neill and Johnson teaming up to take on Dean Roe and Hopper with the former never surrendering the lead in a 24-17 victory. They'll meet Chris Wills and Greg Lamberth who dispatched Graham Allen and Craig Doolan 24-10 in a dominant display. Pairs final set down for midday on Sunday along with the much anticipated finale in the mixed pairs with Tristram and Lyn McKay taking on June Summers and Hopper. Last but not least, congratulations to Macksville and Urunga for winning their respective grades in pennants. Best of luck in the State finals, gents.
