And they did so in the most emphatic manner – 4-blot to sweep aside an out-classed Coffs Coast Tigers outfit who to their credit never stopped countering.
But today was owned by the Strikers – who at this late stage of the season could have been forgiven for writing 2018 off as something that was long and hard, like Year 9.
But instead of kicking stones like F Flinstone at the Bedrock Quarry – the lads morphed into all that was promised yet never delivered thus far.
The small crowd of rusted-ons clapped as the Strikers went to the break two to the good – and it could have been 10, as shot after strike sailed wide or over.
In the second half it was more of the same as Nambucca played upbeat football. The onfield talk was good, support play was there at every contest, and the end result would have been backed about as heavily as Germany failing to get out of the World Cup Group stage.
Above all, they played as a team. And as the game wore ever on, the Strikers finally found their swag.
