Roads Minister Mel Pavey has today confirmed the remaining section of unfinished highway at Warrell Creek will be open to motorists this Friday.
“We’re talking about Warrell Creek – it’s opening on Friday – which gives us uninterrupted dual carriageway conditions now to almost Grafton,” Ms Pavey said this morning.
The Nambucca to Warrell Creek upgrade was expected to be completed in 2017, but those plans had to be shelved to refocus attention on just opening the Macksville Bypass by Christmas.
“We’re a bit late in getting this section started because of some environmental issues, but anyway we sorted that out, open to traffic on Friday – god willing – there could be storms or rain over the next couple of days. We always say weather permitting, but it’s looking great for Friday,” she said.
Details about the opening are being kept close to the Minister’s chest at the moment, but from her words it is safe to deduce that all four lanes will be open for the weekend, making an unimpeded 100kph+ trip from Newcastle to Coffs for the first time in over a decade.
