THURSDAY’S field of 91 found The Island Golf Course in its very best condition and players responded with some good golf as a result, none better than Phil Mander (12 handicap) putting together a round of 38 points.

Next best in A grade was Tim Standing (6) with 37 points. Warren Fuller (14) took out B grade with a score of 36, from Chris Thorndike (14) 35 points. Pride of place in C grade went to Robert Crouch (32) with 36 points to win in a countback from Geoff Rackham (21). Others to produce the goods on the day were Bruce Berry, Greg McCoy, Lee Fewings, Mark Cooney, Urpo Ylinen, Col Wormleaton, John Hopkins, and Scott Burley – all rounds of 35 points.
Ball rundown went to 32 with Terry Coelli, David Ogilvy and Ross Meyers (Everglades) the only players to receive.
Pins went to Greg McCoy, Tim Standing, Drew Glasson, Phil Mander, Rod Robertson took the pizza hole, Chris Thorndike, and Dirk Prummel won the money shot. In his round Peter Farrell birdied the 9th hole to receive the Pelicans Landing Nursery voucher.
Saturday’s 4BBB had a field of 88 players, with good conditions prevailing for John Starr and Noel Gaddes to make hay while the sun shone with 48 points.
The next pair were Peter Morriss and Peter Moxon 44 points, while third were Allen O’Brien and David Rosser in a countback from Peter Delaney and Geoff Wilson and Stephen Carr and Ron Leeson, all with 43 points. Others to show good form were Snowy Freeman and Trevor Peter, Trevor Hopkins and David Bird, along with Tommy Robbins and Neil Duffus with rounds of 41 points.
Balls in the rundown went to 40 with the pairings of Shane Anderson and Michael Bennett, Mark Cooney and Col Edmonds, Peter Hull and Troy Herbert to collect.
Pins went the way of Steven Jones at 3, Chris Thorndike at 5, Peter Fredricks at 7, Stephen Carr at 8, Ted Beaton took out the pizza hole, Peter Farrell the 15th and Paddy Byrne finally found some form to take the money shot at 18.
The following day was the club’s River Sunday, where the sponsor has a choice of game. Sponsors Lyn Grose and Steve Ward selected an Irish Stableford.
Winners were Kay and Kel McGoldricks along with sponsors Lyn Grose and Steve Ward producing a card of 84 points. After scoring only 23 points on the front nine, they had three nine-pointers and one eight-pointer on the home run. Next best was Ross Meyer, Andrew Donavon, Glenys Thompson and Trevor Peck 79 points, followed by the foursome of Kerry and Lyn McCoy along with Linne and Joe Street, 78 points, to get the countback from Jenny and Andrew Johnston and Julie and Stuart Garvey.
Pins went to Glenys Thompson and Kerry McCoy at the 5th, Deidre Byrne and Steve Ward at the 18th while Lyn Grose picked up the pizza hole. To finish the day Pizza This Pizza That supplied all with plenty of frisbees for all to tuck in after presentation. Special thanks to the donors for a wonderful gesture in feeding the players.
