They began the match well and peppered the Raiders’ goal. Zara Pastega was menacing at right midfield and delivered cross after cross to forwards Charlotte Williams and Anna Champion. The latter was unlucky not to have bagged a first half hat-trick but had to settle for two at the well-earned break.
The midfield applied constant pressure in their attacking half and could have led by more at half time. Amie Goswell was directing traffic in midfield and created plenty of chances for her teammates to no avail. 2-nil at the break.
The Strikers’ defence, marshalled by Cheree Chapman was never really tested and goal keeper, Carly Smith, was rarely called upon to make a save. To their credit, Urunga played with resolute spirit even as it appeared they were going down one by one with injuries.
Nambucca pressed on and utilised their bench, relieving players in the unseasonal heat when required. Brea Welsh was unlucky to miss a header from close range late on but Kyiesha Cohen rounded out the match with a well-taken one-on-one goal. The final score reflected a solid and dominant performance.
This weekend will be another story however, when they take on Urunga 1 at Coronation Park from 1pm. Urunga are scoring goals for fun this season and have already amassed 94 goals in nine games.
