The game of cricket has long been the traditional summer sport in Bowraville.
For a century it has now been played competitively with as much venom and tenacity as The Ashes.
Over the past 100 years Bowraville has boasted teams coming out of Argents Hill and Missabotti along with family teams such as the Mackays and teams from each of the clubs in town.
It may not go as far back as the MCC but it seems there has always been a Bowraville Cricket Club and all those who have played for the club have enjoyed cricket’s essence – contest, mateship, rivalry and good times.
This weekend’s racing at the picturesque Bowraville Racecourse will be the venue for a special celebration of the centenary of Bowra cricket. All those who have rolled the arm over, padded up or cooeed from the boundary along with their families are invited to attend.
If you have any photos, newspaper clippings or memorabilia, contact reunion committee members Warren Fuller, Anthony McNally or Greg Doolan as a display will be created for the day.
Upon entry to the racecourse, proceed to the sails covered area where the celebrations will be held and many stories will be told. There may also be the odd descendant of Dr WG Grace.
On track, Diggers Tavern will sponsor the feature Bellingen Cup.
The tavern has been a long-term sponsor of this event and the Jockey Club is pleased to again work with the hotel to make this day a premier event on the 2018 race calendar at Bowraville.
All usual facilities will be operating on the day.
Free buses will run from Nambucca Heads, Macksville and Bellingen.
